Barbados-Our Honeymoon (2011)

We got married on the 18th June 2011 and for our honeymoon, we went to Barbados. I have to say that it was a truly magical time. I absolutely loved our honeymoon and we had some amazing experiences.

This was a 2 minute walk from our villa, it really was this beautiful. It was lovely and quiet and soooooo relaxing and romantic. I enjoy going to different places but I would love to come back here because

even just looking back at these photos it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. This was a year before my health crashed.

So our villa had its own pool and our resident green monkeys which would come to visit us each morning, they were so cute but quite shy so as soon as you even attempted to get your camera out they would just run away but I did get a few shots. This first shot is my favourite one of the monkey eating some fruit.

There are so many beautiful flowers around the villa too which I love. I have done a blog about creating my own mini Barbados in Dorset because I love the colours, botanical style and just the vibe of interior design, plus I miss this place so I need my own mini Barbados.

These are just sooooo pretty and they were all over the island. I was just amazed how cool everything looked and how beautiful the whole island is and I literally took thousands of photos (so this may be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggg blog post haha!)

I saw this cute little lizard climbing across some leaves. I managed to get a pic of him before he ran away into the plants.

So our villa was so perfect for the two of us, I'm glad we stayed there rather than in a hotel because it was secluded and we could really just enjoy each other's company.

We enjoyed swimming in the pool to cool down as it was soooooooooo hot and humid, it was quite hard to cool down especially before the 4 pm downpour which would clear up the humidity. So the pool was really the only way to cool down and it was very relaxing.

This was our villa which was great and it really did feel like a little home which I love. There is nothing worse than not being able to make tea when you want or have food (I get quite hangry when I can't eat or drink-it's not pretty!) We had a BBQ on one or two nights which we really enjoyed, we got some fish from the local supermarkets in Speightstown and Holetown.

I felt the lifestyle was so relaxed and it was really great just to enjoy doing simple things and not get stressed out.

We then did some exploring of the Island, we visited St Nicholas Abbey, Welchman Hall Gully, Barbados Animal Reserve, Bridge Town - swimming with turtles - and Gibbs Beach.

This was us visiting Welchman Hall Gully where we walked through the rainforest, I saw massive centipedes, monkeys sitting around which was very cool.

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a fan of bugs so seeing this was not hugely pleasant for me especially as they were all over the paths too, so it was like doing a slalom. Then I saw massive African snails (I think) - not sure you could eat them though?

There are some beautiful flowers all over the rainforest and so many different species of tree and plants which we had loads of information on in a little leaflet (no idea where that is now but I'm sure I've stashed it away somewhere - very sentimental!) It was just beautiful.

We also went to St Nicholas Abbey Plantation which was a really interesting place and learned about the rum distillery process and the history of the island.

This was really fascinating even though I don't drink and it was just pretty and great to learn more about the history of Barbados. We alternated days of chilling and then exploring so our last on land experience was the Barbados Wildlife park which was soooooooooooooooooooo cool and we got to feed monkeys-very cool!!!

null

Troops of monkeys in the rainforest with very tiny baby green monkeys.

Mother and baby monkeys just hanging about, still very wild but aware of the visitors.

The babies were soooooooo cute and one was trying to wander off from their mother but the mother grabbed its tale and pulled it back (it reminded me of toddlers on bungee straps-quite amusing!)

OK enough of the cute baby monkey pictures, we saw lots of other animals, including two tortoises having.......errr....... cough.... cough......romantic moments. We saw these animals too..... including agouti.!!!

We then explored the island, then we had our last adventure which was swimming with turtles (which will be a separate post as it will be a food and look book one!)

Anyway this post is about a mile long so I will leave it here for now but look out for other Barbados posts soon.

Toodles XX
