Blogmas Day 5: Handmade Advent Calendar part 1
So this post actually started back in the summer when I applied to Kirstie Allsopp's Christmas show, which was asking for crafter to apply to her show which would has been filmed in October. So I started making decorations that told my story of Christmas, personal events and stories told through little felt decoration. I have had great fun designing them and working out home to make them. I first made a list of ideas and then slowly worked my way through the list and made each decoration from a very quick sketch for each one, there was a little trial and error but this became a quicker process. I sent my application form in but......................I didn't get on to the show but I am glad in away because I never would have finished it while working full time and doing Slimming World as well.
So with out further a do I will show the decorations I have made and their title.
These are the first decorations I made:
Driving Home for Christmas-The little red velvet car with presents in the back and a little me driving. This is something we do every year as our families live in different parts of the country.
Winter Wonderland-it was the first time my husband had gone ice skating together and it was a lovely day and I definitely would love to go again.
We had Belgium waffles and massive beer steins for hubby! It was a great festive Christmas activity and an important Christmas memory! It was very romantic!
Engagement Stocking-In 2010 I had been at my mums for Christmas and Hubby at his parents so when got back to our own home we were settling in and exchanging present and a Christmas stocking, I remember love all the gifts and then I reached into the bottom and pulled out a beautiful green box and I hubby took it from me and ask me to marry him! The most magical way and perfect for me with my love of Christmas!
Christmas past-was my family home and many Christmases past and some really great memories! I think my favourite Christmas past was still my first Christmas getting my Mega Dream House after I moved from foster care!
Or this amazing photo of my late Dad had surprised with me with a phone but hidden in a slippers so I had no idea, he was brilliant at pranking me!
Christmas Dinner-I love Christmas dinner, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, stuffing, turkey, sprouts, parsnips, carrots and all the other trimmings! It’s my favourite meal of the year and it’s a very special meal for me! It’s the best meal of the year! I can’t wait to host and cook my own Christmas dinner for my hubby and family! Planning the most amazing feast for one day hopefully soon!
Santas reindeer-I remember when we were younger that Christmas was just magical listening to hear the jingling of the reindeer on our roof. My dad used to jingle his keys at the bottom of the stairs to make us think the sleigh had landers on the roof! I made sure that my little reindeer had little jingle bells to make it truly fun memories!
Santa and his sleigh- Christmas Eve is the most magical time and I remember the excitement and anticipation of Christmas Day! I love the magic and I can’t wait to recreate that when we have children.
Angel wings- In memory of my amazing donor who save so many lives. I wanted to take a moment to remember and treasure his memory. I never want to forget!
Zenna- she was our beloved dog that was in every picture whether it be her nose, tail, foot, ear. She was always part of our Christmas celebration and was missed terribly, so I wanted to include her in my Christmas celebrations. She was so cute and it makes me want to get a little dog, just like Zenna.
Decorating the tree- I loved decorating the tree and getting out our favourite decorations from years gone past. My hubby and I have a tradition to buy a decoration each year, either a bear or mouse which is great fun finding amusing decorations. I’ve also been making handmade decorations this year which will add to our traditions!
Santa’s Letter- Every year we would write a letter to Santa of all of Christmas wishes and then we would put it into the fire and send it up the chimney and in the wind to the North Pole where it magically got put back together. It was a lovely tradition and I think as long as have a log fire in my next house we will continue this tradition but it’s a shame to burn them so I think I would switch them out so only a blank letter gets burnt to save them for the future.
No custard for Roy- My lovely Uncle hates custard because of the horrible custard from school, so everyone used to almost sing no custard for Roy every Christmas, it’s an in joke which I thought was quite funny!
Santa’s Grotto- I remember being taken to Santa’s Grotto for many years. I thought that it would be great fun to create our own Grotto when the time comes and get Hubbies Dad to play Santa. It’s a lovely tradition and again something I would love to continue! This decoration has a from and a back so it’s like your entering Santa’s Grotto!
Toy shop- I remember being taken to various toy shops around Christmas time, Toys R Us, Hamleys, Argos and others to get ideas but my favourite by far was Hamleys! It was an amazing store and I remember eating far to many sweets on the way home from Hamleys one year and feeling quit sick. I loved how many floors it had, my favourite was the cuddle toy section and the sweets.
Home sweet home- Our first home that we own and it was our Christmas in our first bought home in 2016. I feel soooo happy to be here in our own little place or Burrow as we call it! It’s festive, and it’s ours which makes it more special!
