Autumn & Winter-Isle of Wight
So as most of you will know my lovely in-laws live in the Isle of Wight and we often visit them. We go at different times of the year and we definitely play the tourist when we visit, exploring some of the attractions on the island.
In the Winter a lot of the island attractions close but it's still nice to go for a crisp walk or visit some lovely country pubs (Ok many country pubs-we pretty much eat our way around the island-the food here is really great.)
We do have our favourite pubs that we frequently visit-creatures of habit. We also get to enjoy open log fires at hubby's parents house which I love, always feels soooo cosy.
There are some great walks on the island, we are lucky because the house is close to the warren which you can walk across and end up by the Needles and then if you go down the hill you will end up on a cute little beach. I love the different seasons on the island especially autumn (favourite time of year) and can't wait to bring our children here when we have them and be a proper yummy mummy looking all glam on a family walk..Ultimate life goals!
It's such a great place to bring children, our adorable nephews
have a blast here. Playing on the beach even in the autumn and winter, there's something so charming and innocent about the island. It really is a magical place for families, it really captures the child's imaginations. It feels like you could be in The Chronicles of Narnia or part of the Famous Five adventures. There are so many hidden places to explore and secret coves that could spark stories of pirates lost treasure or finding dinosaurs. I always feel inspired to write children's book ideas when I'm here. I feel like
a proper writer down here with all the sweeping views to really get the inspiration flowing.
It's so calming even on a cold blustery day, it's a great escape from the stresses of day to day life especially when we lived up north in a busy town. Now living in Dorset we are more relaxed at home but it's still nice to sail across and leave all the life's stress in Lymington (especially when you are rushing and you just about make it onto the ferry-then the holiday can begin-happens almost every time.)
Here are few things we have got up to in the Isle of Wight in Autumn/ Winter over the years. I have been meaning to do a post for years but never got round to compiling my pics from all the trips. Now I decided to break it into two post on autumn/winter and spring/summer to see the difference of the island.
I love visiting the island over the festive period but it's always quite mild, so unfortunately it will never be a white Christmas.......sob.....sob! However that means it's not to cold to go for a festive walk. I love the food on the island and they do really cosy delicious food, great pies and lots of game-which I love-tried to be pescatarian but it didn't last.)
We also visited Osbourne House on one our trips. I think actually it's better to visit in the autumn months because it is less busy but it's still looks pretty. I think you would get some lovely pics in autumn as all the trees start to turn beautiful reds and deep rich browns and warm yellows-although these pics where taken just before the joys of autumn colours. I was wearing warmer clothes in the pic because it was while I ill. I love all the old Stately Homes and Osbourne house and gardens are beautiful.
It really is pot luck with the weather though in the autumn/winter months, it can be a bright crisp day and other days it can grey and blustery but thats why it'ssuch a great place to take photos. You will never capture the same picture twice.
An over cast day driving back along the military road (not for the faint-hearted, the views are amazing but there a parts that are sheer drops-eeeeeek!)
So on that note, I'm off to embrace the autumn season!
Toodles my little conkersXX
